About The Artist
Welcome to My Website.
I hope you enjoy your visit and find that ideal gift or piece of original art work for your home, office, friends and family.
My name is Mary O’Donnell, I’m a self-taught artist with a passion for art and photography since a young age.
I studied art in school and have been painting ever since.
In 2017, I was delighted to receive a birthday present from my family, of a week’s place in the summer art college for Landscape painting in the Burren. This took place in the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan Co. Clare and enjoyed the course so much I returned in August, to complete a week in Abstract painting with Irish and international professional artists. I have been painting in their week long workshops bi-annually since then and find the time out fantastic for developing my own individual style and creating blocks of art work for exhibitions.
This time out, immersed in art and nature, gave me the focus and confidence to make the long planned career change in 2019, from the property world and I happily moved over to being a professional full time artist since then. This was my dream since childhood and has been a wonderful life changing move. I now have the time to develop texture, tone and vibrancy in my work which is very exciting. I have always enjoyed finding the light in my art and deciding on the focal point which in my more recent abstract works, is often warm colours, light splashes or exciting textures.
I am delighted to have the opportunity to display my love of art and photography to a wider audience with this website.
I am a creative, fun loving person who is inspired by nature and our stunning Irish coastlines and sweeping landscapes. My love of birds and nature was passed on to me by my late Dad who taught me to explore and appreciate the beauty and wonder of nature especially in our bird and marine life.
I am a native of Youghal, Co. Cork and have a wonderful partner Eamon, four adult children and six grand kids. I enjoy painting and creating in my studios in Youghal and in Fanore, Co. Clare.
Happiest travelling, exploring and drawing inspiration from our harbours, villages, historic buildings, lighthouses or sailing and boating around our exciting coasts. I can often be seen, hanging over cliffs with binoculars, camera and sketchbook to hand, exploring our coastal islands or collecting seashells along our sandy beaches.
I hope you enjoy browsing my artwork and photography as much as I have had creating it and you find that perfect gift or original art piece that you are looking for. Mary
